WebFeb 26, 2024 · Excel delays in saving files as pdf A user is experiencing an issue when they try to export a file as a pdf, Excel either takes a long time to export (2 min) or freezes and goes into Not Responding status. It doesn't seem to be one particular file. Here is what we have done to troubleshoot: Try exporting the same files as pdf on a different device. I ran an XlsxWriter test writing 1,000,000 rows x 5 columns and it took ~ 100s. The time will vary based on the CPU and Memory of the test machine but 1 hour is 36 times slower which doesn't seem right.

When I close the file, another copy of the workbook is created also almost without any delay. When saving the master file, Excel waits a long time (sometimes it takes several minutes) before saving. Try it instead with XlsxWriter as the xlsx output engine: df.to_excel ('file.xlsx', sheet_name='Sheet1', engine='xlsxwriter') It should be as fast as the xls engine. Share Improve this answer
