Most animals are tameable, in the case of particularly dangerous animals, you'll need to maintain it until the dwarves get familiar with the animals, but any babies the animal has while tamed are immediately tamed for free. For bonus points, you can build "watch towers" that have your cows on it. This is so you can spot invaders the moment they arrive. All you have to do is build a raised platform with some chains on top.

(I believe) You can use Dwarf Therapist's Animals tab to see if any animals have injuries. Old age isn't too difficult to keep track of. WebMar 5, 2012 · Turkeys give 9 meat when butchered, and lay an average of 12 eggs. They are the best overall birds, but they require 2 years to reach full size. Geese give nearly the same amount of meat as turkeys, but lay the fewest eggs of all the poultry, average 5.5. They only require a year to grow which makes them good for meat.
